The story
In the corner of an old house, there lived a family of mice. And for years, they had a problem. The problem had a name. The cat.
The cat was quiet. The cat was patient. He moved without a sound, and he always seemed to appear at the worst possible moment. The mice lived in fear. They could never relax. They could never enjoy a meal in peace — because at any second, the cat might be there.
So one day, they called a meeting. Every mouse came. Something had to be done.
One after another, they stood up and spoke. They argued. They complained. But nobody had a real solution — until a young mouse stepped to the front, looking very pleased with himself.
"I have the answer," he said. "It's simple. The problem is that the cat is silent. We never hear him coming. So — we hang a small bell around his neck. Then, wherever he goes, the bell will ring, and we'll always know exactly where he is."
The room went wild. What a brilliant idea. Why had nobody thought of it before? The mice cheered and clapped. They felt safe already.
Then, from the back of the room, an old mouse slowly stood up. He waited for the noise to die down. And he asked one quiet question.
"That is a wonderful plan," he said. "But tell me — who is going to put the bell on the cat?"
Silence.
One by one, the mice looked at the floor. Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. And nobody, it turned out, wanted to go anywhere near the cat.
The meeting was over.
“And the lesson is this: it’s easy to suggest a plan. It’s much harder to find someone willing to carry it out.”
